• Initial Contact:

The first step is easy and free! Fill out the online contact form, and we’ll set up a free 15-minute discovery call to discuss your project. A design survey will be sent as a follow up so I can learn more about your needs.

    I’m ready to get started!

  • Consultation:

Schedule an onsite visit or Zoom call. This 2-hour session will explore your site’s conditions (shade, deer pressure e.g.), practical needs (privacy, drainage e.g.), wishlist (ecological function, design style e.g.), and dream scenario.

  • Estimate and Next Steps:

Receive an estimate for design costs and a basic ecological study (architectural, engineering, and/or construction costs are additional). I’ll outline the next steps to kick off the project.

  • Contract and Planning:

Sign a contract detailing the design brief and timeline. A 50% payment is required to schedule necessary surveys, ecological studies, and soil testing.

  • Preliminary Design:

The fun begins! Initial concepts for planting style, hardscaping, and overall layout will be presented. Sustainability and biodiversity will be prioritized. A 30% fee will be required at this stage.

  • Revisions:

Review the designs and provide feedback. Two rounds of revisions are included in the design fee to ensure the plan meets your specific needs.

  • Final Master Plan:

The final master plan and additional documentation (for DIY installation or contractor use) will be delivered. A final 20% fee is required at this time.

  • Additional Services:

Need help bringing the design to life? I offer:

    + Nursery/plant shopping

    + Furniture/showroom shopping

    + Planting oversight

    + Construction liaison

    + Maintenance visits

    + Plant care training

FAQs

  • An ecological report is an assessment of your property’s environmental conditions. It evaluates soil health, existing vegetation, hydrology (water movement), and wildlife habitats. This information helps me create a sustainable design tailored to your site, improve biodiversity, support pollinators, and address challenges like erosion or drainage issues.

  • It depends on the project’s scope. Simple planting designs usually don’t require permits. However, projects involving construction (e.g., patios, retaining walls) or significant changes to water flow may require local permits. I’ll help guide you through the process or connect you with the appropriate professionals to ensure everything complies with local regulations.

  • The timeline varies depending on the scope of the project. A smaller design may take 4–6 weeks, while larger or more complex projects requiring surveys, ecological studies, or coordination with contractors and architects may take longer. After our initial consultation, I’ll provide an estimated timeline and keep you updated throughout the process.

  • It is understandable that projects can evolve as new ideas or needs arise. If the scope changes, I’ll provide an updated estimate and contract outlining the additional work, costs, and timeline. I’ll always discuss changes with you before moving forward to ensure you’re comfortable with the adjustments.

  • Every property has unique challenges, and I specialize in finding solutions. Whether it’s stabilizing a slope with erosion-resistant plants or improving poor soil through amendments, I’ll tailor the design to address these issues while enhancing the overall biodiversity and sustainability of your landscape.

  • Design fees are based on the complexity and size of the project. After our consultation, I’ll provide an estimate for the design, ecological study, and timeline. If the project requires implementation or additional services (e.g., construction oversight, plant sourcing), we’ll discuss those costs separately.

  • A design survey is the first step in creating a landscape design that fits your lifestyle and property. It’s a simple questionnaire where you share details about your outdoor space—like which direction your yard faces, any problem areas, and how you plan to use it. Whether you have kids, pets, love to entertain, or just want a peaceful retreat, this survey helps ensure the design reflects your needs and style. It’s an important step to creating a space that’s both beautiful, functional, and built just for you.

  • Sustainability starts with thoughtful planning but continues with proper care. I design landscapes that minimize maintenance by prioritizing resilient native plants and ecological balance. I also offer training or maintenance visits to help you care for your new garden, ensuring it thrives for years to come.

  • Once the final design is complete, you’ll receive all the documentation needed for implementation, including the master plan, planting lists, and installation guidelines. If you need additional help, I offer:

    • Nursery shopping to source plants

    • Furniture and showroom shopping

    • Planting oversight and construction liaison to ensure everything is installed as planned.

    • Maintenance visits or training to help you care for your new landscape.

If you plan to work with contractors, I’m happy to collaborate with them to bring your vision to life.

  • An architect or engineer may be necessary if your project involves:

    • Major structural changes, such as building retaining walls, decks, or pergolas.

    • Complex hardscaping designs or outdoor living spaces that require engineering expertise.

If your project calls for an architect or engineer, I can recommend professionals I’ve worked with or collaborate with someone you’ve already chosen.

  • During the consultation, we’ll walk through your property (virtually or in person) to assess its current conditions, identify challenges (e.g., drainage, shade), and discuss your goals. We’ll explore your wishlist for plants, materials, and functionality to develop a design that balances your aesthetic and ecological priorities.

  • Fire safety and flood mitigation are integral to sustainable design.

    • For fire safety, I use fire-resistant native plants and ensure appropriate spacing around structures.

    • For flooding, I focus on water management techniques such as rain gardens, permeable surfaces, and strategic plantings to improve soil absorption and reduce runoff.

During the consultation, we’ll discuss these issues if they’re relevant to your property.
